Upney deserved a proper burger restaurant. Fresh beef, real technique and food worth the trip. So we opened one.

Smash burgers took over London a few years ago. Proper ones, with fresh beef, a caramelised crust and sauces made in house. In Barking, Dagenham, Ilford and East Ham the halal options never caught up. You either went into town for one or you settled.
That did not sit right with us. Barking, Upney, Dagenham, Ilford and East Ham eat as well as anywhere else in London. So we took the site on Edgefield Ave and got to work.
It has been the same thing every day since. Fresh beef on the iron, chicken breaded by hand, and food we are happy to put our name on.

There are no shortcuts in this kitchen.
The patties start as fresh balls of mince. They hit a hot flat-top and get pressed down hard, and that contact builds the lacy, caramelised crust with a juicy middle. You cannot fake it and you will never get it from a frozen patty.
The chicken is marinated, coated by hand and fried when you order, never from frozen and never cooked in advance. The sauces are made here. The fries are cut thick, seasoned and dropped fresh, not sat under a lamp for an hour.

Upney Is Home.
We are not a chain and we are not a franchise dropped in from somewhere else. We are on Edgefield Ave in Upney, a few minutes from the station, cooking for Upney, Barking, Dagenham, Ilford, East Ham and Beckton every day. The regulars who come in twice a week. The Friday night family orders. The ones who drove over from Romford because somebody told them to.
The neighbourhood turned up for us. We do not take that lightly.
